Hey everyone,

I just lost my blonde naso tang last week, it stopped eating for a second time and didnt make it this time. I think it was inevitable with it so I dont know what eventually killed it. It did have black spots all over it which I thought was aggression from my sailfin and whitetail.

Anyway, now my white tail has a white fuzz over it and my sailfin started getting it tonight as well. I have looked at everything regarding disease and there is nothing that stands out for this. It became noticeable on the back tail of the sailfin tonight.

Yes, I know he has HLLE but it hasnt changed since he started and has started to get better.

Parameters -

Nitrates - 15
Phosphates .09
alk-8
MG -1300
Cal - 430
Salinity around 1.024-1.025

Yes I am dealing with algae right now as well. I do have a sand sifting goby and the dude goes to town all day so there is always particles in the water as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, this tank has frustrated me so much lately ive almost quit. I do want to get rid of both of the tangs due to aggression, but dont want them to die or anything like that.

I tried to get a video best I could, these guys are shy and all over the tank. No others are showing any signs of anything right now.

Image is sort of blurry but may be fungal. What is ammonia and nitrate level?
What foods are you offering ?

As for blonde naso, there has been an abundance of them coming from Sri Lanka and simply not making it. They start out looking stable and then slowly deteriorate, getting thin and stop eating while swimming weak.

Nitrates are between 15-20 or so. Don’t have an ammonia reading but can go take one with an API I’ve got. Don’t know how much I trust it though.

I feed a mix of reef frenzy and herbivore frenzy in the morning and mysis shrimp in the evening with some Nori during the day.

Ok great- with that food, maintain good water quality and the HLLE will subside but like not fully restore. Some other good foods for tangs are:

Formula 2 flake and frozen
TDO Pellets
small plankton
Hikari Marine cuisine
Ocean nutrition veggie diet
spirulina brine shrimp
Prime reef
Nori seaweed basted with garlic extract

Add selcon vitamins to foods occasionally

Now I noticed black spots on my sailfin similar to the naso. Black Ich??? or some parasite??

What can I treat them with? The white tail seems to be similar but all the other fish are fine.

Ive got some of that on the way and garlic extract as well to start feeding them.

Anything else I can be doing? I am going to start doing water changes as well. Anything else?

This may very well be black ich. While not the ich parasite, they are turbellarian worms and likely the Paravortex version which are smaller and appear as grains of black spots with melanin pigmentation that causes the appearance of black dotsand it takes one worm to start an infestation.
These worms have a single host life cycle producing several juveniles which can last up to 30 days but rarely do. Best is to treat with Praziquantel better known as prazi pro for two 8 day intervals with a water change on day 9.
other option is formalin based medication such as quick cure or ruby Rally Pro starting with a bath for 45 minutes followed by treatment
Do note that Prazi will lower both oxygen and appetite, so an airstone is recommended for added aeration and monitor water quality during treatment with a reliable test kit

Is that something I can do in the display tank without hurting coral or inverts?

I do have a 20 gal tank I just set up for the naso but getting these two out would be a huge and painful task.

Yes you can but treating a tank with coral and inverts always a risk - dose at 85% of recommended dose and consider owning a fish trap for easy removal. Works for me Every time.
Increase aeration with Prazi

Ive now realized its bacterial.

Can I treat Kanaplex in the entire display tank? My white tail died two days ago and my sailfin is somehow still alive. My clowns started showing it yesterday so I put them in the small 20 gal I have and will treat that with the Kanaplex as soon as I get some, but my copperband is showing signs of it this morning and he will be extremely difficult to catch, so can I put it in my display tank?

You havent treated yet?
Kanaplex in quarantine tank - Not display and add aeration during treatment. You can put ruby rally pro in display but will take a couple of days to start working and quite frankly Kanaplex is more effective. As you found- waiting allowed others to get this and I would used the quickest and most effective- Kanaplex or even Maracyn 2. Maintain good water quality during treatment

I treated with PraziPro because I thought it was black ich but realized yesterday its bacterial. Going to get Kanaplex today.

Can I keep a copperband and 2 clowns in a 20 gal QT tank?

Yes as long as you maintain good water quality and oxygen hence using an air stone
