Hi,

I would like some help in diagnosing white spots on a purple tang. I purchased the fish ~8 days ago and it has been alone in my 20 gal QT tank. There are no treatments copper or otherwise currently in the tank. It has been eating since day 1 (Spirulina brine, seaweed pellets, and TDO). Salinity is ~1.024 sg. I attached the best photo I could take in short time. I can try to setup for a better photo if needed.

Is it possible to diagnose with this photo? If so, any recommendations for treatment?

Thank you!

Marine ich doesn’t grow in patches like that. This is more likely bacterial overgrowth or just skin mucus from some irritation.
I would recommend though, that you put this fish through a full quarantine process including Coppersafe and praziquantel.

Short video in white light will help cement the diagnosis when the experts arrive.

It’s obvious irritation and see Jay assessed it already
I’m on a cruise ship and have limited internet access
