Got any pictures? I am thinking 3 400 watt halides and 8 4' t5ho over my 8x4x30
Thanks!

Im running 4 250w on my 800g , 10ftx4ft footprint, with 4 4' VHO super actinic. Im not happy with the actinic, they do nothing to supliment the metal halides when both are on. Im told the t5 would be no different. You might wana look at the Reefbrite Led strips.

Also im going to switch to 400w when my bulbs start to go bad and raise the canopy. I have the dual ballasts that allow for 250w or 400w.

I can say that I was running T5 with my halides on my 300 and they definitely make a difference. At least the coral blues did. That tank had 3 250 watt halides and 4 th50. I have reef brite strips as well, they help a little.. the xho ones, but not as much as the t5's. Thanks for the input!!

I run 400 watt MH with radiums and some leds on my 8’x3’x4’ -720 tank. Still love the crisp color and depth penetration they provide. I am running reefbrite leds! Love them!!

I will be soon! Picking up a four reflector fixture in about two weeks from @vetteguy53081 at RAP Chicago. I have a tank it appears with somewhat similar dimensions as yours. It is 96 x 36 x 44. Would love to see more information, pics on your system! Mine is also 1inch acrylic.

@soffutt
this would be an ideal way to mount them otherwise hooks or cross bars.

Looks sweet! My tank currently consists of $2300 in acrylic sheeting sitting in my garage.

One thing to remember about halides is that they loose like 15% power in the first 3-4 months then slowly loose brightness the rest of the time. Lower your lights like and 1" after 6 months, then 6 month later another 1" replace bulbs after 18 months.

But yes, halides ROCK the shimmer.

Shimmer, the effect of blue skies and the penetration of light into the aquarium. halides rock. Soffutt is getting Twin T-12's on each side also. Yes, T-12 not 5. and super blues.

I run halides I have three 400w pendants going and some AI Hydra 52HD’s.

On a side note, where is everyone buying their halide 400w bulbs from? They are slowly becoming hard to find.

Aquacave still sells 400w radium bulbs, what kinda of ballasts do you run?

I would LOVE to run MH again, but I just can't deal with the excess heat. It is already a challenge living in AZ, but add the MH and.... NO THANK YOU!

Absolutely, if you live in a warm climate then halides have serious draw backs. I live in oregon so in the mornings when the house is 60 degrees I will likely have my morning coffee in the fish room :)

I am building a 8x4x30" tank and the plan is three 400watt MH, with two T5ho on each side of the reflectors and a pair of 6' reef brite XHO blues because I have them and they are dimmable for that night time reef look.
