Lots of people start and very few keep up with the updates unfortunately
I can see that. I followed a couple of grow out threads here on r2r and didn’t notice many at the finish line a year later. I wondered if it was more lack of success, or short attention span. There is no shortage of either in reef keeping. It seems like it would be a good low pressure way to keep interest in the tank up.

I have a few pieces that I can add to this. All were given to me by a fellow refer. All easy to care for corals.

I’ve looked at some of the grow out challenge threads. (Just the battlecorals ones really) It seems they are mostly using very challenging corals. Which makes sense for those black belt coral keepers, but I’d be more likely to keep it up with something that I felt I could for sure keep alive. What’s up with that star polyps grow out challenge y’all! ;Hilarious

We do challenges on another reef forum. Some contests dictate the size, budget, diy etc.

the current one we are doing is a year long. Specs were it must be an aio - diy or store bought from 0-20g. to stay in the game you just need to do a monthly full tank shot/ build thread update. It’s been a lot of fun.

at the end of the competition, members vote for winners in a few categories, winners get a few prizes from sponsors/vendors.
