I could not keep acropora alive in my tank for roughly 18 - 20 months. After that things just started to stay alive and grow. Nothing changed but time. Sometimes I think everything takes longer than what we would like. When I look at my 2.5 year old tank I thought I would be much further along. I think it will be where I want it in 4 years. Just thought it would have been there in 2.
