Please R2R - help me save the marriage. Been bitter cold this winter and the fuel bills are crazy. Wife complaining that the aquarium (78 degrees) is warmer than the house (67 degrees). She says she is freezing and the fish laugh at her every time she walks by the aquarium.

Looking for some creative ways to:

1) Get the fish to stop taunting her
2) Explain humans are more temp tolerant
3) Save energy/save money
4) Reduce heating bill but keep wife warm
5) Anything that will help save the marriage and avoid my sleeping on the sofa!

Please help,
Frozen in NY

1) don't clean the glass so they no longer see each other
2) humans are warm blooded their body temp changes according to the bodies need while fish are cold blooded meaning that they don't have control over their body temp.
3) I suck at financial decisions
4) like 3
5) a nice little gift that will snooze the anger for a bit.

Get a digital thermometer and set it 10 degrees off so it looks like the tank is 68. Ask me how I know that trick haha.
Very creative but oh so sneaky. Not sure I could do this but wondering if you had some less deceptive tricks up your sleeve?

Let her soak her feet in your tank.
Don’t they have those fish that will eat the calluses off your feet? Win/win!!!

There are spas where you put your feet in water and fish will eat the dead skin off. Wonder if they're reef safe?
Could we be on to something??? Reefs that double as spa treatments for our spouses and partners!

Always amazed at the crazy directions these threads take!

Wife may not be very happy if she found ya out on that one lol. Is your water heater oil or electric? I save alot of oil by insulating the plumbing in my house with cheap closed cell foam covers. Same thing goes for the aquarium insulate the plumbing and if you can place foam board insulation on the back wall of the aquarium. My house has barely been updated since 76 so I have to heat shrink all the windows, and I'm in the midst of setting up a passive solar heating system to use with baseboard heaters that can save alot on oil but its not the easiest for someone who hates plumbing like myself. If you get enough southern exposure that could be a good option. *Not my pic

Heat with oil and have hot water radiator heating.

I get incredible southern exposure! Looked at solar electric but super expensive.

Tell me about your passive solar heating??? Really intrigued!!!

I'd try to explain how a larger tank would help heat the room. At least a 500 gallon one. Radiant heat or something.
Now this is creative thinking that Reefers are known for!!!
