Hey guys, so I posted a week ago about my new goniopora frag that i got that just wont open. So far it will only extend its polyps a few millimeters and retracts back throughout the day. Ive moved him to a low flow and light area and its getting better but still no full extension. I took a time lapse video of him and theres a brittle star living in the base of the goniopora and on the video you see when the brittle stars tentacles touch the goni it recedes back into its skeleton! I want to keep the brittle star alive, so my question is will a dip kill the brittle star? Or just make him detach from the goniopora. Please lmk your suggestions ill attach photos of when his polyps were the most extended. I also feed often reef roids and phtyto.

Pull your goniopora and dip it in your sump or a small container of tank water and shake it. You can usually loosen brittle stars that way. I get them all the time in my foam filters for my skimmers and literally shake the daylights out of the foam and stars fall out.

Ill have to give that a try, he burrowed in a small hole at the base of the goni. No idea how big he is only ever see his small tentacles.

They come out pretty easily. I try to save them when I'm cleaning my skimmer foam, they're great CUC

I use Revive and have saved several brittle stars that came out of corals during the dip. They seem to come out almost immediately and I remove them as quickly as I can.
