Ahhh, where do I start? I’ve wanted a piece of the ocean ever since I was a kid, but my parents who controlled the purse strings wouldn’t have been willing to purchase something like that, so I made do with aquarium books. I think what I’ve discovered about myself is that 1: I like to spend money on things I love and that gets me into some trouble
ofttimes and 2: I still love this hobby and the community surrounding it. I’ve gone full circle starting(briefly) with a little 16 gallon BioCube up to 90 gallons and now at least temporarily going back to a 20 gallon AIO(moving this year so I wanted to get something that I could have in a regular apartment as I’m subletting a condo at the moment). I’ve lugged a 90 gallon tank, albeit acrylic on your own up 3 flights and pulled an SR 60 up those same stairs on a dolly(giving me at least one good scare) , so maybe I’m a little crazy too. So after that little back story the meat of it is I guess, resilience and the ability to bounce back is what I’ve discovered about myself. And I love the mesmerizing effect the tank in any form has on calming my mood. I’ve made some real friends here as well which I honestly didn’t expect as I’ve never exactly been a “people person” . Thank you considering my entry and here’s my modest little tank

I'm going to throw my hat in the ring!

Thinking about this question, I've discovered a LOT about myself, I'll break it into 2 or 3 chunks, slightly sappy so strap in. Being on the tail end of the millennial generation, I suffer the horrible anxiety inducing imposter syndrome. Through my own reefing journey, and the ability to share my experiences while exploring this forum, it has provided me a space to share the little knowledge I have gleamed and be supported in my suggestions and comments (as well as corrected when needed). Being supported by this community has improved my confidence and has even helped me career-wise being able to use this composure outside the reefing world.

Along with this new level of self-assurance, I have the capability to sustain something “worthwhile” and be able to keep a consistent schedule if it relates to something I care about. Be it checking parameters every so often or weekly water changes, the effort I put in is related to my success, At the same time turns out I do have the capability to step back and relax when things go bad…. Despite my normal knee jerk reaction I typically have towards things when they go in unexpected directions….

To summarize:
  • I have more knowledge and ability than I give myself credit for
  • I CAN have an expensive hobby and keep it going successfully
  • I don’t need to freak out during emergency situations
Also. Bear down.

I nominate @OrchidMiss for Mariner of The Month. As our resident R2R mermaid (mermaid badge pending approval by Ministry of Badges), insert random name patients call her has intimate knowledge of the life aquatic. When she isn't busy giving @tbrown competition on his winning streak, you can often find her on the SBB and other live sale threads. In fact, she might be better described as the resident R2R enabler mermaid, spreading enthusiasm a d encouragement for our reefing addictions. Her tanks each have unique and memorable characters that have inspired many an R2R reefer: Jello the photogenic trigger, all the fish in the bad guys tank, even a tank with a murderbug mantis who turned out to be less murderous than its tankmate dottyback :)loudly-crying-face:), and who could forget Felicia the clown. Let's not forget that she started the Agenda thread that inspired many of us, myself included, to record and track our goals! @OrchidMiss for R2R Mariner of the Month!

I nominate @Stang67 for Mariner of The Month. Diligence, knowledge and skill meet humor, generosity and community spirit in @Stang67 , a great R2R Mariner and deserving candidate for Mariner of the Month! Her passion for coral reefs extends beyond the tank and into the ocean where she spends her vacay time diving in the water most of us dream about. She has taken a proactive approach to developing her reef with results to back her up, so check out her tank thread. Not only is her reef beautiful and been featured by her local reefing community, but her thread is worth following just for her humuhumu trigger Elvis! On top of that, she is constantly learning and teaching, which is why @Stang67 is a top candodate for R2R Mariner of the Month!

I nominate @VintageReefer for Mariner of The Month. This month, I feel especially privileged to nominate @VintageReefer , because I am executing my upgrade from and office 40 to a tank inspired by none other than @VintageReefer , a custom production 83gal tank, stand and sump from the previous owners of CurrentUSA! @VintageReefer began the thread identifying and promoting this tank and has been instumental in helping many reefers get a start on their tank, including mine. But @VintageReefer 's involvement extends far beyond just this tank, sharing knowledge in all areas of reefing from personal experience, from equipment to tank husbandry. In fact, @VintageReefer 's off the beaten track approach to reefing with near zero maintenance has been inspirational and eye opening for many of us. And the results show! @VintageReefer has one of the brightest and poppingest reefs on R2R! And don't forget the amazing near zero maintenance pico reef! @VintageReefer 's drive to help others on R2R is a prime reason for being a deserving candidate for R2R Mariner of the Month!

I nominate @Fish Styx for Mariner of The Month. My previous nomination stands (why mess with perfection?):

It seems like this hobby attracts people with an amazing combination of humor, knowledge and good vibes, and none more so than @Fish Styx ! Much like the Cronies and the Smorgs, he has a set of devoted followers among his Heathens (not mutually exclusive) in his corner of the forumverse. His corals pop even more than his toes (if ya know, ya know). He is a stalwart protector of the tang. And he is a generous person who genuinely wants to help others. What more can you want from one of our top Mariners?

I nominate @00W for Mariner of The Month. My previous nomination stands:

He may be as old as Mickey Mantle or as young as Bobby Witt Jr, no one knows, because he convenes reefers from all over to his Smorgasbord corner of R2R: old and young, big tanks and little tanks, tacos and... well, mostly tacos. @00W has made a lasting impact on our growing online reefing community. He freely shares his deep knowledge of reefing topics. Is extremely supportive of members in his My Aquarium Showcase thread, The Smorgasbord. And, he delights us daily with his love of all things aquaria, baseball, food and good music. And he has one of the most iconic, photogenic, fat fish on R2R! Joel is a Mariner who deserves a very big hat!

I don't think I'll be entering this month, but who knows, the month is still young. Thank you Jill, I appreciate it
Would you also like an inspiring and heartfelt nomination?

I nominate @luis angel for Mariner of The Month.

Luis has seen amazing growth, both as a reefing Mariner and in his tank! He freely shares his knowledge, ability to bring people together (see The Smorgasbord), and recipes with anyone. He is the de facto Secretary of The Smorgasbord, an entire corner of the R2R forumverse and keeps up with all of the amazing people in that group. He is a champion of the tailspot blenny, alongside @kevgib67 , and has done exactly what we expect any good Mariner to do: upgrade! He embodies all that we strive for in this forum: family and friends, love of the life aquatic, pursuit of knowledge, care of animals and tacos. You can expect great things from @luis angel , one of our best candidates for Mariner of the Month!
