#1 Tip: When manually removing algae, if one wants to retain as much tank water as possible, one can place them on one of those kitchen paper towels (the type that does not fall apart) over the tank (a mesh or whatever) and let the water drain back into the tank. When enough algae is removed, one can also wrap it up in the paper towel then wringe water back into the tank without adding any of the algae back.

Clean but dirty water has been key for me. I keep a nano reef and run a protein skimmer for nutrient export which allows me to feed HEAVY. This colors up the corals and helps them grow lots
