QOTD: What got you into this hobby?

I've always wanted to do a SW tank. Finally took the plunge. I love learning new things, and building the setup each time is almost more fun/interesting than after it's up and running.

I'll start off. As I mentioned earlier, my first and favorite fish was a porcupine puffer that was about 4-5" long. I put it in a 36 gallon bowfront tank, which is basically a 20 long with a gut on it....yeah. It didn't work out so well and I lost the fish. I was upset for a while after he was gone.

Thinking that I could go 6 hours without power and doing nothing to my tank. With no water flow everything starve the oxygen and died

Not fully understanding what corals needed what. We all hear that kenya tree and xenia are super easy but they thrive in dirty water. I have no idea how I brought them both back to life but they definitely are not easy! Everything takes understanding and stability to some degree.

Bought a expensive fish and afraid it would die in QT. Then, put the fish directly to the DT. A few days later, ich were on all the fishes

Definitely not watching a video on what the heck a sump was.... had a big head after 8 months of success with an AIO but crashed pretty quick after assuming I knew how a sump worked

My biggest mistake was moving to quickly through cycling my tank, which resulted in dinos.

How/when did your reefing mania begin?
I grew up 20 minutes for the Gulf of Mexico and I am have always loved aquatic species. Grew up with freshwater tanks so it was a natural progression I guess. First tank was a 45g long and I would have to travel to Houston to the LFS there and that is when i saw corals that popped that I knew I was hooked.

Biggest mistake well there are a few. First biggest mistake listening to the LFS guy about coral care and not doing my own research and reading. Second biggest mistake being impatient and rushing things.

Not dipping corals, introducing flatworms, and then using Flatworm Exit. The process nuked the tank; ended up losing a number of corals and fish. It was a painful couple weeks.
