Please help me and recomendation.

There is two types of tube UVC housing available on the market in Indonesia.

1. Uv tube housing with quartz sleeve
2. Uv tube housing without quartz sleeve

The model of the lamp used are TL T8 30 watt. There is also a lot off brands TL uv lamp like Philips and osram.

My question is : Wich one is beter and should I get, with or without sleeve tube?

I have chosen without sleeve. Is any drawback if there is no sleeve?

When used underwater, must be sleeved so water passes, but never touches the bulb. Others are for different applications.

What protects the bulb if there isn't a quartz sleeve?? Is it just glass? I didn't think you could even get one w/o it in order to protect the bulb from contact with the water.
Thank you for the answer. I dont know about uv. And i have just bought it without sleeve.

Is the uv will not work properly?

Here is the picture

The UV bulb goes into the quartz sleeve.

The sleeve protects the bulb from salt water. The reason why it is quartz is because quartz is transparent to UV where glass blocks UV.

You need a UV with quartz sleeve for saltwater.

Quartz sleeve for sure. It is a water tight seal between water and bulb and helps to prevent electrocution.
Elctrocution from bulb surface or from wiring?

There is the o ring seal on this device that without sleeve.

Is any drawback on its uv function? Any microsope test on water between sleeve and without sleeve?

Bulbs with direct water contact can crack or explode and then that stainless steel housing could cause a house fire, kill the tank inhabitants or you. Not a good risk. Most units use plastic housings to prevent shock. I would not use this unit.

If Glass would block UV... why does "saltwater" need quartz and other (fresh) water not?

I have see the ends of the lamps corrode with contact with Saltwater and then catch fire. Do you want that chance with your home or aquarium? It is just another layer of protection for the consumer.

You are talking about something different (most comments here are).

We have the glass from the bulb itself
We have the glass from the sleeve which goes around the bulb

The glass from the bulb never touches water.
The glass sleeve does toch water.

You do not need to be concerned about the bulb itself. These are fine whatever they are made of. No bulb uv producer is going to manufacture a bulb from glass that will not pass UV. That would be weird.

But there is some debate in the reefing community about the sleeve. You usually read this sleeve needs to be from Quartz glass when used in saltwatertanks.
My question is, if there are sleeves from normal glass instead of Quartz glass, why do they exist when they block UV. It wouldn’t make sense.
