I will only put tank bred livestock, and aqua cultured corals in my tank even if it means some fish are not available to me.
Primarily because I wont have a hobby that damaged natural coral reefs. I would be no better than the fox hunters or game keepers then.

It also has the advantage that you get less pests, hardier fish and in some cases even less fussy eaters.
I insist that nothing goes in my tank if it came from the ocean, must be at least F1, preferably F2+ if available. Some species are becoming quite rare in the wild, and the capture process can be quite stressful for the fish when taken from the wild.

Diamond Goby: amazing for cleanliness, coral health, and - in my case - being the total boss of the tank.

After waiting tankless for 25 years, I promised myself that I would have to have the following:
Purple tang
Flame angel and
Flame hawk

I now have the first two, looking for a hawk!!!
We had a flame hawk and got rid of it as it ate our shrimp and small gobies. Loved his look and quirky personality though. But we insist on a Bully- less tank

I only have a betta and future addition of catfish tank. Though if I do get into saltwater it would be tank bred clownfish and anemones.

1. Yellow Tang. Colorful, active and continually nibbles at algae to keep the tank clean.
2. Golden Head Sleeper Gobie. Tirelessly turns over the substrate to keep it clean and you've got to love the pearl white body and bright yellow head.

I am currently waiting for my tank to mature and when it does will be adding a Dragonet(probably Red). I do have a question though, will it be ok with a blue streak goby or will I have to remove him?

I’m really hoping to find a shrimp/goby pair. They’re the coolest.

It is cool, but after having a pair, I would only see the pistol shrimp maybe once every few weeks and that was with his burrow facing the front. I always thought that had built its hole in the back, then I'd never even see it. And the watchman is cool, but always hiding. Now that I just moved my 40 gallon to a 125, I find that my stocking list is all open water swimmers :D

I guess my two most iconic for me are the clown and yellow tang, which figures now that I have a big enough tank for a yellow they are hundreds of dollars, if you can find one at all... going to settle on a Tomini I think instead.

I give very careful consideration to fish in my tank.
I would say my jewel is my purple tang.

I don't really have a second favourite, my coral beauty is a good character, but I've had my clownfish about 5 years, so have a real soft spot for them.

Lol, I don’t think that is a fair question to ask.

Personally, I HAVE to have my inverts. They bring me the most joy. Some actual fish (puffers) I would really really love in my tank, but I love my inverts too much to do that to them. I like gobies and semi-cryptic aquatic life. I also love my hitchhiker freaks.

Before my tanks big crash I had 2 Griessingei Gobies, I named them Waldo and Carmen San Diego.

I really really miss my eel. Never went after my sexy shrimp, never bit, never tried to escape.

I have attached pictures of some of the life I have really loved in my tank and managed to get photos of.

Firefish. Red of Helfrichi. I much prefer the Helfrichi but the wallet doesn't. I can't think of a sinlgle tank that I have kept that didn't have a red firefish in it.

One fish I will NEVER own again? Clownfish of any kind.

I have a tiny little 5 gallon tall reef, keeping a fish wouldn’t be ethical imo. However, I love all blennies and would love a blenny focused tank someday. They have so much personality and are such fun little buggers, would love to have a bunch and maybe even breed ‘em! They’re not the most colorful (usually) but they have more personality than any other fish I know.
I totally agree with you! Love my Benny. So fun to watch
