Would it be better to grow out a colony or frag strictly for the purpose of most growth?

Lets use a trumpet coral as an example.

Lets say we have a colony of 10 heads.

Would it be reasonable to frag all 10 heads and feed them to grow out as individual colonies or would it be more reasonable to keep the 10 headed colony and let it grow as it is and frag out individual heads while keeping the large colony?

Which would be the better choice for coral growth?

Would I get more return from frags or a colony?

As for LPS, fragging most likely wouldn't have any impact on growth. SPS have been reported that if you frag from the mother colony, that colony may show growth spurt. Frags from it may be slow to recover and start growing.

I think the bigger the colony the faster it grows every time you frag its going to need weeks to heal so better keep them together

That's what I had in mind.

My trumpets grew from two three headed frags to multiple large colonies.

I'm planning on fragging a colony and letting each frag grow into a large colony. Seems like the best way for growth as far as trumpets go.
