New but cycled 25 lagoon. No livestock as of yet. About to add 20 lbs of live rock. Phosphates 0.25, nitrates 15.

I have had that in my temperate tanks, came with a rock with 2 other macros. If it is the one I am thinking of, it is more of a weed algae and like a dandelion tries to smother other macros. But if is your only macro... But get a second opinion from @WheatToast
Also Reds are more of a lower light deeper algae’s

So maybe I would idk, I’d would first have to weigh my odds, and see how it helps my refugium, but since you said it was straight from the ocean, yea no I have to say no

Depends on what you're trying to achieve with your lagoon.

I have a 25 gal peninsula which i use to experiment with stuff i find along my coastline. I also have a softy tank with various local macros. I would put it in either of those. I wouldnt put it in my main mixed reef as it would be out of place.

Just think how many copepods are on that...
I am all about "From the Ocean" The way people talk about direct from the ocean, is like you’re putting in stuff growing from somebody’s septic system. If that is your only macro, I would say go for it. Actually its a pretty nice piece so I would probably would anyway.

I appreciate the input. Would purchasing some macro from the LFS be safer?
Ig so. If it’s that specific type of Macro you are looking for, I personally would get it from the LFS, but I would still try my best to sort of “clean“ it, (and by that I mean I’m not trying to sterilize it). It is definitely a safer bet if you get it from the LFS, but who knows you may get a treat from the wild one.

Not sure I agree that its safer from the LFS.

Im dealing with some nasties in my mixed reef that hitch hiked in from frag plugs.

No such nasties in my other two tanks with local rocks, snails, macro etc.

Each has its own set of risks.

Being a 25 gal, i would go for it. Worst case you have to restart the setup.

“What I want to achieve”, this is an excellent thought provoking question! I really just want stability. I would hope that this macro would use up nutrients and keep nuisance algae at bay, and also, I like the way it looks.
