I take the big crabs out and new little ones start coming out.
This guy is cute. I hope he stays that way.

The tanks survived my trip out of town.

I got a hitchhiker with the feeder shrimp I buy from eBay for the lion. I am told it is a rainwater killifish. It is living in my refugium and has been in there for a couple of weeks.
IMG_2682_heic-M.jpg

He likes to go down the overflow and I find him in the mesh sock I use to keep the macro out of the pumps. It is about the size of a female guppy.

The 14k bulbs are here for the 240 and I hope to get them in tomorrow. I moved the MP40s to the 75 and am running 2 Tunze 6155s and 2 MP60s in the 240. All gyres are dry. I got tired of keeping them clean.
I am very happy with the Lifereef skimmer. It works well.

I ordered the larger cup for it. I should have done that to start with.
Mommy and Daddy guppy are making lion food.

There are 2 batches of baby guppies in the tank now and the first ones are just large enough to feed to the lion now. He has no trouble catching them.

I am still getting baby minnows too.

This whole thing has been kind of an experiment for me.
There are so many tales of individual experience on here. I am making my own knowledge base.
I added a GFO reactor to see what it would do. It's like cooking. How much salt do you add to the stew.
It appears I added the right amount since I about halved my phosphates which weren't high to start with.
I am running it by simply siphoning water from the top to the bottom.
IMG_2727_heic-S.jpg

It has brought on a bit of cyano out on the rocks.

Here are the back corners of my 2 tanks. That is where the sins of the fish keeper go to hide.

No train wrecks in hiding that I see.

Another thing I have tested is flow everywhere, especially the sump areas.
They stay clean. More than a year with no cleaning.
IMG_2732_heic-M.jpg

I reprogrammed the big light timers so that the T-5s come on at 7am, go off at 9am when the MH with the 14k bulbs come on and then come on for an hour again in the evening at 8pm when MH cuts off.

The little killifish is still fine.
IMG_2730_heic-M.jpg

I was hoping to maybe get another but none were in this shrimp shipment.
I throw out a lot of ulva.

I lost 2 more fish over the last several weeks. No sign of disease but I think the competition for places to sleep at night has become a little more violent. The last female anthias and one of the blue reef chromis were the victims. The little fish always lose.

I am thinking about getting a second lion.

In my travels around the internet I came across this
Complete_Aquaculture_System.png

And I studied it and realized with a few mods I could recreate the home version.
So I moved some stuff around in the sump and made more room.
IMG_2747_heic-X2.jpg

The ozone is being injected into the Lifereef skimmer. This process totally kills the foam. SO I put my old skimmer back in as the foam fractionator. Both units are supplied with outside air.
The water from the tank enters the bottom of the tub on the table and leaves through 2 x 2inch drains into the bottom. These are set up as a main and emergency.

So I have a 2 inch pipe all my water goes through at one point. I am going to put a UV unit in there.
The only part missing from the diagram above.
I ordered an 80 watt unit with 2 inch inlets and outlets.

If I disappear from here it is because my wife has killed me and buried me over the hill.

I am running 1200ml of biopellets and 1.5 cups of GFO in reactors. The GFO reactor doesn't have a pump. I just siphon water through it from the top tub to the bottom one. It seems to give a perfect amount of flow for it. I have turned off the Nopox doser channel.

I took the overlap out of the big lights and now the T-5s run morning and evening and the MH through the day.

My nitrates are about 3 and phosphates 0.2. Interestingly dropping the phosphate with the GFO and turning down the lights has caused a pretty good cyano outbreak. I was about to use Chemiclean but Lion King said it's bad for lions in one of his threads. I only have it in the big tank. The others are fine. I am going to see what happens for a while.

My friends are all fine and I just gave them their last meal of the day.

One of the anemones has come out of the rocks. The other must still be in there.

I was somewhat concerned I would get up this morning to fish that glow in the dark from radioactivity or something after sticking all this stuff on the tank.

I have some microbubbles. I will work on that.

Morning foxface. It sleeps in this corner every day.

Blue sponge
This came on a piece that had some hard tubed fan worms. The big crabs ate the fan worms.
Now the sponge is in several places.
IMG_2789_heic-M.jpg

The old snails are about 2 inches now.

So the recent cyano outbreak took care of itself it seems? :)

Chemiclean

I have 3 tanks on one sump. I had cyano in the left half of the big tank this time. Last time it was the 2 little tanks. I have read most threads on here about it. I still have no idea what to do about it other than Chemiclean.

Ahhh. I’m a newbie so I have no idea either but this thread has been a fun journey to follow and I hope it gets better for you soon!

These 3 seem to be doing okay. Some of their color has returned. They are very thin as well.

The excitement of going to a storefront, looking at the beautiful animals and carefully choosing one that looks healthy that will fit into some niche in your system is gone. Now you look at pictures on the net. Send them money. You get what you get.

Sorry about the losses. It is frustrating that the fish supply chain seems to be unhealthy right now. I keep hoping that it will get better, but I am beginning to lose faith in that.

Hope the anthias pull through for you. If what they need is a healthy tank to forage in, they have that with you.
