Finally was able to catch one of the large amphipods running around my tank at night. One of them is the size of a freshwater neocaridina shrimp! I know they are mostly seen as good but anyone have an idea on what types could cause problems? Probably too many species to count. I think they are wiping out my copepods, ha. Haven't seen any this big. This one is about 3/8” - 1/2” or 9.5mm- 13mm long. I’d say the larger one is around 3/4” or 19mm long.

Reminds me of a house centipede..

Yes he is really large. As you stated there are literally thousands of different species of amphipods. What we have appear to me to be herbivores as we have copepods surviving in their culture. Not knowing what else and how large you tank is. But if you want to get a look at your pod
Population you may want to leave a small spot on the glass “dirty” giving the pods a reason to hang out at a feeding spot. I have had customers who said they never saw anything in their glass, and then after leaving a 2” square to grow on the glass they found it co weed with pods.

Thanks and that’s not the biggest one I’ve seen, just the biggest I could catch.

We have some big ones also. I’d know there are carnivores omnivores and herbivores among the different species, but I have no idea how to actually tell them apart. Yours doesn’t look any different than ours.
