He looked yellow and fine when I was feeding him. About an hour later when the lights were off I was looking around and noticed he looked very pale. Looked as white this morning also.

Wouldn't worry about it too much right now. They change shades when the lights are out and it takes a few minutes to get their normal colors once lights are back on
I just ordered a black clown goby off of live aquaria and he was pale and sitting at the top of the tank. I turned the light off to see if he passed and he swam off. Is this the same anomaly?

A lot of fish will change color when shipped. Once they get settled, their color will come back.

Fish also go pale while sleeping. Go peek in on your tank with a red flashlight at night, might surprise you to see all the nocturnal life you never get to see, and how pale all your fish look.

Yup, blue cleaner wrasse goes almost completely grey when sleeping and takes about an hour or so to turn full blue again once up and about in the morning. I guess its a form of camouflage against potential predators.

Try doing so with a red light. Your eyes adjust to it much better and far more quickly and it doesn't seem to bug the tank inhabitants as much.
