That's not a yellow eyed kole tang. I have both. Have had them for years.

Yours has a whiter tail. That's why I say juvenile. Mine lost the white tail once it matured.

This is what this guy looks like today.

Question. What happened that yellow eyed are going for 150 bucks?

Hawaii closed but you can still get many different kole versions that look similar to the one from hawaii

Also he paid for a fully QT fish so that ups the cost

Looks exactly like my orange-lined tang, Ctenochaetus striatus, no resemblance to any of the "kole" type fish. Mine is solid black 80% of the time, and the rest of the time he's displaying to his tankmates with a brilliant bright stripes that seem to come out of nowhere. In addition to this, C. striatus has the same small black spot at the base of the tail as yours does.
I love mine to bits, and it's one of my favorite fish in the tank. However, they do have to potential to get 8"+ long with age, so keep that in mind. Mine has grown from 2" to 6" in 3 years.

Really should just turn the blues off completely and whites on for a better pic for us and for Dr Reef.

It’s already been mentioned, but I thought Yellow-eyed were essentially only found in Hawaii. With the ban in place I’m curious of the origin for your fish.

There is a spotted yellow eye that is not hawaii only. Called the Square tail tang... I think venders started calling them spotted kole tangs after the ban to increase sales? idk maybe that always another name but I don't remember hearing it till after the ban.

My guess is a two spot... I see one of the spots in the back. Does it have a blue colored eye?
no its eye isn’t colored at all he is all gray and his tail is a whitish color… front of his face has dark dots half way down his body and then the rest are smaller dark lines
