Hey so i noticed this about a week ago on my yellow tang after i put a mirror in the tank for my new fish im not sure if its ich or not? ive been managing ich really well for the past 4-5 months but im not sure if he started showing after the mirror was placed or not. it doesn’t really fully look like ich tbh.

He eats everything no loss of appetite or anything he does have hlle but he’s fed properly and maybe even a little more then properly. I think his hlle is because he’s one of the captive bred YT’s just my opinion.

he is the head of the tank. No other fish are showing any other symptoms.

Tank just went thru a prazi treatment

Definitely HLLE, cant see well enough for anything that looks like ich. The way you word it though sounds like you’ve had ich before so you can assume its still around unless tank has been properly treated.

Those white spots could be ich. Do you see any white salt like spots on the clear parts of the fins? That can help diagnose it as ich….

Ugh, that’s tough then. Copper or hyposalinity are two options. Trouble is, the other fish may break with it also, requiring all the fish to be moved out for treatment. Is there anything you can do to ramp up your ich management? Add UV?

i have a bigggg 25 watt uv on my system thats kept my ich managed for 4 months. I think it was the mirror that did it. Still eating alot ill keep feeding heavy and keep you updated.

Thanks Jay

i’ve noticed it on him for 3-4 days. I thought Velvet kills in 1 or at most 2 days
Velvet can kill rapidly - velvet can also be survived - its not 100% fatal.

I have this @Jay Hemdal

is it worth a shot? or should i just let it run its course with my UV and feeding. He’s eating like a pig.

I wouldn't use it personally. I've heard too many "did not work" stories. They are also vague about what it contains. It seems to be 5-nitroimidazole, an antibiotic. Metronidazole is in the same family, and it doesn't work very well on ich.

No. I had a huge breakout about 3 years ago and almost 4 days before meds arrived and lost one of 39 fish
You wont have a week likely but you will a few short days
