I love my Gold Spot Rabbit Fish. He is under $100, changes color in different situations and for a bonus loves to eat algae out of my tank.

It's pretty rare that I spend over $75 on a fish. For me, various flasher and fairy wrasse would have to be some of the best at that price point. One of my all time favorites are the regular old firefish.

I like clowns quite a bit. Also wrasses. Clowns are just neat and I love the relationship with nems (when they have them). Wrasses are just beautiful.

None of my fish are over $100. I have some basics. I have 2 "designer" clowns, a black ice and a bullet hole (basically black ice with spots) and they were $45 each. I have a royal gramma and a lawnmower blenny- both under $20. I would like to get black axil chromis, and those are around $12 usually.

I would really love a flame hawk fish, they are adorable and have a ton of personality. I just don't want it to eat my cleaner shrimp or my crabs.
Just and FYI. I took a chance on a flame hawk, I had the same concerns. It’s been 2 years and never a threat to my cleaner or peppermint shrimp or my emerald crabs.

Wow. So many choices.
It’s hard to argue against the yellow or purple tang. Constant swimming, functional picking at algae and sturdy.

Beautiful fish in the saltwater aquarium hobby is not lacking and you don't have to spend a fortune to get a nice, good looking fish for your tank! So that being said let's talk about some great fish choices for under $100!

1. What's your favorite saltwater fish that's normally priced under $100?

2. What makes this fish your favorite choice?

Rarity has nothing to do with it for me . I like the looks of the fish and love the butterflies so I find it’s something I could see myself buying if it was affordable. I also like the Pakistan Butterfly yet most would probably find it boring , same with the Klein’s.

I get it, your a butterfly fish collector so they all interest you.
Honestly if someone gave me that fish I would either sell it for cheap or give it to someone who is passionate about them, someone like you.

boring?!?! you're crazy if you think the purple is boring! I love mine, such a beautiful fish and is not camera shy at all

I just meant there are some crazy looking fish out there, and there’s nothing real “crazy” about a purple so to speak.

Trust me, ours is definitely one of our favorites!

Definitely my flame hawk fish. I got a bonded pair and they are hilarious. I’ve never had a fish ’look’ at me the way they do.

I cant remember the exact price but for around 100 (what used to be hard for me to find period, let alone a decent price) my prized mystery wrasse. Well under 100, under 50 would have to go to my starry blenny such a fun fish to watch and the color and contrast is surprisingly beautiful in what seems to be a plane black and white fish.

I voted if I like it I buy it. Within reason. It has to be something suited to my tank and the other inhabitants. But, I would have to say 200 would be the ceiling, maybe 250 for a bonded pair of something that meets the aforementioned criteria. Spending that amount would be for something really special to me.
