I was dosing my 20g nano yesterday and started wondering how many milliliters of Calcium and Alkalinity everyone else was dosing in their reefs. Now I know that the amount these are consumed will vary based on many factors including but not limited to the coral bio-load within the reef system. That being said I thought it would be fun to compare notes so let's talk about it today!

I need you to answer all of these questions.

1. How many milliliters of Calcium and Alkalinity are you dosing per day?

2. Would you consider your tank to have a heavily, moderately or lightly stocked coral bio-load?

3. What types of corals dominate your reef tank? SPS, LPS, Soft etc?

Well, my dos tells me I’m at 100.8 calcium and 112.9 alk in a 125. That’s on top of a couple of hundred ml of kalk, mostly to kick pH up a little. My tank is mostly gigantic monti caps. One day something else will grow. Probably.

My magnesium is sitting there waiting for levels to go down. Since I’m doing auto water changes, it appears that that gallon may not ever get used. It’s been 5 months without touching it

I don't dose. weekly 20% water change

2. Would you consider your tank to have a heavily, moderately or lightly stocked coral bio-load?

moderately heavy. I still have space for more corals.

3. What types of corals dominate your reef tank? SPS, LPS, Soft etc?

I have what I would consider a light coral load --> 7 or 8 small SPS frags, couple torches, 1 hammer, zoas, 8 headed blastos and 4 headed lord in a 65 total water volume system.

Dose about 100ml per day of 2-part which maintains a pretty constant 7.5dKH and 440ppm calcium.

It's spring time, so up here in the North East I can crack my window and get my pH up to 8.3 during the peak of the day and run on average 8.2. Definitely notice a huge difference in Alk and Cal uptake now compared to the winter where I was sitting around 70ml per day with an average pH of around 8.08.

1. 14.5ml each part 1 and 2 ATI Essentials Pro per day. Undiluted. Plus an additional tsp soda ash daily to maintain alkalinity.
2. Light load of coral.
3. Exclusively SPS.

I dose 8mils of All-For-Reef do 25% water change monthly.

2. Would you consider your tank to have a heavily, moderately or lightly stocked coral bio-load?
I would say I have a moderately stocked coral bio-load with room for more.

3. What types of corals dominate your reef tank? SPS, LPS, Soft etc?
34g with 50% softies and 20% LPS.

1. I dose ATI essentials Pro 1 & 2. I current dose roughly 200ML each daily(Total 400ML).10% water change with natural sea water roughly once a quarter.

Dkh: 7.2
Cal: 420
Mag: 1270
PH: 8.2 - 8.5

2. I consider my 300 gallon reef moderately stocked with SPS

3. SPS baby!!!

My tank is starting to hit its stride again (Had a nasty dino outbreak that impacted most of my sps and my Magnifica Anemone.)

Not all concentrations of ALK and CA are the same so I’m not sure the accuracy of reporting Mls used. Also, dosers can be slightly out of calibration.

Consumption in the form of PPM is best IMM.
Please feel free to correct if I misunderstand.

My tank is a 180, mixed and say moderately stocked.

Its daily consumption and dosing rates are as follows:
Alk 18ppm but 66ml in product to maintain 190ppm
CA 16ppm but 55ml in product to maintain 440ppm
Phosphorus 7PPB but 10ml of product to maintain 24ppb.
Nitrate consumption unknown, no dosing required at 5ppm.
MG, consumption unknown, but dosing 40ml product to 1400ppm.
Every couple of months, dosing needs a bit of an increase.

1. How many milliliters of Calcium and Alkalinity are you dosing per day? - 42ml of Alkalinty (soda ash) and 20ml of calcium. Maintains 8.3 - 8.5 dkh and 420-430 Ca

2. Would you consider your tank to have a heavily, moderately or lightly stocked coral bio-load? - I consider the tank to have a low to medium coral load right now.

3. What types of corals dominate your reef tank? SPS, LPS, Soft etc? - About 26 SPS frags (22 acropora) with two 4-5 inch Monti plates and about 14 heads of various Euphilya in a 125g system.

I was dosing 144 ml alk, calcium, and 48 ml of Mg Cl / Mg sulfate daily. that maintained my alk at close to 9dkh (hana alk checker and CA at 440-470 NYos Calcium checker).

5 days later I tested and alk fell from 9 to 8.1. I've been steadily and slowly increasing my dosing since switching to reef crystals. I think having trace elements added by reef crystals has increased my coral growth rates and consumption as well as my coraline algae growth rates. I also added in the mg dosing, which may have triggered faster growth rates as well. I don't know.

All I do know is I'm now up to 168 ml per day. And if it continues to drop instead of increase, I'll be increasing my alk and CA dosing to 192 ml or more per day. A good problem to have in my opinion!

Tank is 350 gallon volume with sand, rocks, and sump. I'm probably around 50% where I want to be with corals in 3 years. :( Corals are too expensive and pandemic set all the local reef clubs back in meeting and trading. :(
