Hey Guys,

Hoping Jay can chime in here as he helped me a few years ago with flukes on my Coral Beauty and saved its life!

But I noticed today that my YWM has these splotches on its body. I’ve had him paired with a pistol for 2 years now and haven’t had any issues with him.

Are we looking at flukes again here??

I did have a near tank disaster a few weeks ago where my tank heater broke and overheated my tank to 92 and everyone made it out alive except for my cleaner shrimp. I usually kept my tank at 79-80 but now I’m keeping at 77!!

Also side question, I haven’t added any livestock for months now. If these are indeed flukes how do flukes make their way into the tank! Thanks for any and all advice!

Forgot to add that he is acting normal and eating fine
That seems too splotchy to be flukes IMO. Did these show up right after the heating episode? Can you try for pictures under whiter lights?

To be honest, the hole he was in was in the back corner and I never could get a good look at him. I didn’t notice until today. They look fluorescent, just fed to get him to come out, some more pictures.

Weird how the spots seem to fluoresce. Some bacteria do that, but I’ve never seen it on a fish.
Still, this species is prone to developing bacterial skin infections. They can sometimes fight this off on their own, but if the spots are growing in size, you might need to treat with an antibiotic in a hospital tank - Neoplex would be one you could try.

Is it possible to treat neoplex in the DT?

Theoretically it is, but in practical use, it can cause issues with killing off beneficial bacterial. No true antibiotics should be dosed in a display. There are all manner of "tonics" on the market that can be dosed in the DT, but they also aren't really effective.
