Tank looks great. I completely agree about the FTS being a nemesis, just imagine having an even longer tank!

Glad I'm not the only one! :) I already have to back up to the far side of the room as it is to get this little 3-footer in the picture, not sure what I'd do if it was longer. Learn to stitch pictures, I suppose.

Eric, sorry to hear some of your corals aren't doing well. Your photos are awesome as always. JP

Thanks Jeff. The hydroids seem to have dissipated in the larger tank but they're in full force in the smaller tank -- now taking over some nice acans. The frustration continues but I'm just trying to be patient and let them run their course.

So very beautiful! LOVE!!

Really appreciate the compliment, Rev! :) I think it needs another 2-years or so before it will really be in full form. Hopefully I can keep it stable enough to get there!

Thanks for the FTS... that's piece or art IMO :). Also, thanks for your opinion and info about the calk vs 2 part!

I finally got my hands into the tank this past weekend and did some cleaning/rearranging. Will get some FTS up once the dust clears a bit more. I'm still battling with the hydroids and flatworms, but my bigger issue--I think--has been lack of maintenance. The tank had been on auto-pilot for a few months, one or two small water changes and inconsistent testing. The bottom line is that it was moved down on the list of priorities after losing so many prized corals. Then we lost an awesome wrasse -- the Naoko. But I've resolved to get back on track. While it's no surprise, these tanks were doing much better when I was doing weekly 20-25g water changes and I need to get back into that routine. I'm hopeful that with more attention, the tank will bounce back quickly.

Have noticed some burnt tips on a few normally hardy acros. I was scratching my head trying to figure it out so I went back through this thread and my notes. Back in mid-October I was experiencing the same issue on the same corals. I checked that against my reef log (stored on Google Drive) and I noticed that my alk was around 9 dkh at that time, when I was normally keeping it in the 7.5-8 range. I've had my alk in the 8.8-9 range for the last 3-4 weeks so I'm guessing that's the problem. I reduced the alk dosing to see if bringing it down to the 7.8-8 range will help. I'll keep y'all posted.

Normally I wouldn't think that 8.8-9 dkh is "high" and certainly not high enough to cause the burnt tips. But after looking back, I'm pretty sure that's the problem. If so, build thread/reef log FTW!

Thank you guys!

Here's one more. I can't believe how slow of a grower it has been for me -- I got it as a fresh cut twig but it's been at least 20-months. Patience is key, I guess, and at least it's color has held strong.

Goodness gracious you take amazing photos beautiful tanks!

Saw you had some hydroids did you have any luck with them? I had the same ones for a bit at one point they were out of control. I added some peppermints and while I still have some they have lessened. I have not seen the peps eatimg them and really only catch them out at night anyway.

Beautiful tanks again!
