Got this coral April 21st. Did slow acclimation of tank water then once matched did coral rx dip as directed on the bottle. Rinsed them with different water from tank and placed. Opened within 15 min of placing in the tank. Have been great so far a little over a week. Now all of the sudden there's this loose clear thin stuff floating around the stalks.
I have kessil tuna Blue lights. I did a slow acclimation with them no lights for a few days then I only did 5% color and intensity for a few hours then slowly lengthened it over the course of a week.
It's been fine opening and closing. Now it's partially curled up on one side and there is a knot on the side of the stalk
I have tried using jets of water with a syringe to knock off the skin looking stuff but didn't budge. I just now moved it to a different spot in the tank lower and with less water flow.
Tried researching if it's shedding or not.
Do they split when they reproduce? My first ones. Tank is a few months old. Fully cycled. Has 2 clowns. There is increased algae production from the lighting being on but it's staying on 5% color and intensity for maybe 10 hrs a day
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 10 (im getting ready to do water change to lower those)
Phosphate 0.01
I feed vitamin enriched mysis shrimp 2x a day for clowns and add phyto feast in the morning. (Added pods prior to corals but think the clowns ate most of them.)

I would be interested in finding out why this is happening to your zoas. Mine have just recently started being closed up and i also noticed a bit of what looks like clear film coming off the side of one. I do have new polyps growing on on the frag plug as well though

OK so since this post I have reached out to other experts because yes all mine started closing up as well. He recommended to get largos solution and do it as a dip. It's a iodine dip. On the bottle says it's for zooanthellae that iodine helps remove excess oxygen. So I also removed my bubble disk to see if that would help. The first ones I dipped are starting to open and I just dipped the others on Tuesday

OK so I looked it up think it's pretty much the same as my coral rx dip. It kills hitchhikers and stuff. I did do a second dip of that on my zoas when this first happened. Then it was almost a month until I got the lugos solution in. You can dip again if you want. And give a gentle brushing get junk off. I'd still do lugols dip. Technically it's called lugos solution it instructions say to check iodine levels and add to the tank but I just put quite a few drops in my dip bowl and did a dip with it.

Lugols
About ten drops per cup is what I do for lps/zoa dip. Make it look like really watered down tea...leave in for 5-10 minutes...clean off with tank water..drop back in tank.
