Ok anyone know anything about the toxic stuff from zoas? Thinking about removing them from my tank while I still can.

Palytoxin.
You will be okay.
If you plan of fragging them ever just use gloves and eye protection, don't cut yourself and wash you hands when you get through.
No point in removing them.

But yes......it's some pretty serious stuff you don't want to play with.

This.

Basically, I think it started out as something to be cognizant of and has gotten blown wayyyy out of proportion. Be safe and smart if you're making them angry (whether fragging them or even crushing them in your tank), and you'll be fine.

I have tried my attempt at my first corals with zoas, but they're not doing well. I've narrowed it down to either lighting or ph/alk issues. It's a new tank, but I'm going to keep trying.

What is the best way to go about getting them off the frag plugs and onto rock? I think frag plugs are the most unattractive addition to any reef.

I assume you could get a razor blade and cut them underneath their bottom along the top edge of the plug. But from there do you just rubberband them to some live rock/rubble, or can you superglue?

What's the best method any of you have found? I am generally a patient guy, but I've seen how slow some things are to grow and I can't stand those plugs!

Haven't done so myself, yet, but I saw a video which is what I will do. Basically, they cut the flesh on their zoa, then break the plug with cutters to separate the polyps (if fragging), and then trim down what's left of the plug until it's just a little chip. Then you can glue that chip wherever you please.

Ya, I don't like the plugs either. If you look around, many sellers have their zoas on rock chips which are glued to the plugs. The chips can be separated from the plugs with a small hacksaw or dremel. You can then glue the rock chip directly to your rock. I like this so I don't have to be cutting into the zoas. Just look around and you'll find plenty.

On a timer- 3 moonlight LEDs that come with the JBJ Trinity 4x39w T5 8:30am-9:15am(wake them up) & 7pm-8:30pm(put them to bed)
On a timer- ATI B+ & B+ 9AM-7:30PM
Manual- ATI B+, C+, B+, TRUE ACTINIC(MAJOR KEY TO THE SUCCESS) 9:15AM-11:15AM & 4PM-6PM
Peak photosynthesis is at 10am & 5pm for zooxanthellae. That's when I run all 4 lights.
A half the recommended dose of Reefroids 2x a week at the 5pm peak hour.
0-3 the most nitrates at the end of week. I care to much about my fish. Average weekly is 2 nitrates before water change.
December pic with a 2x24w B+ & C+ for proof.
The fire and ice I fragged on to two others. Had 3 now 7. The other had 5 now 2.. Lost 3 due to it being my fault. Got a drop of glue on the 3 polyps..

Also forgot to mention chlorophyll A & B are huge for health and growth which peak out 400nM-450nM. The ATI True Actinic peaks at 430nM. Right smack dab in the middle making it possibly the best bulb on the market. Yeah it is leaves a muddy purple line down the center of the live rock, but oh well when you get monster results! Got that tid bit from Than from Tiddle Gardens covering ATI T5 bulbs part 1 on YouTube.
If you want to checkout my tank 40B Knasty on YouTube. You can see that frogspawn from the Dec. pic in the middle bottom that has 5 more heads growing under the skirt.

So, I saw some nice looking colonies at my lfs and I think I'm going to buy one...question is in their zoa tank there was some single zoas looked like they had detached and sitting on the substrate and I'm not sure what colony they came from as they had so many.

Is the zoas dropping of like polyp bail out on Lps or is it normal for them? Is it safe to do a h2o2 dip? for pests?
