I have two Reef Radiance coming in soon and thinking about how I want to hang the lights over my tank. It is part of a built in unit that I constructed. The bookshelf over it comes out to about 10" of the tanks total 24" width. I am thinking to just get a curtain rod and attach to the bookshelf and at each end. Then I can clip the hanging clips to them. I just don't know if the curtain rod will hold the 18lb total weight spanning 48" length. My other idea would be to bend some copper pipe and attach it to the back wall, butt I don't know if the copper will bend under the weight. I don't want to hang from the ceiling or attach to the tank. See attached pics.

Thoughts?

Thanks big blue. I do not want to mess with the built in look and since tank is shallow want to keep it open for viewing.

Also forgot to mention I will be selling the 3 Orbit Marine fixtures once I get the other lights in.

Go to your local scrap yard and get 2 1inch poles and bend to a 90 degree angle and just use some metal brackets to screw it into place.

Here it a concept that might get your creative juices flowing. Your built in is beautiful and I've seen these units used in custom closets. It gives a very sleek design and if ever to move the tank you just slide the bar back into place

Thanks for the ideas. Looks like I need to take a trip to the local hardware store or Bed Bath Beyod to find some closet rods or something else. I was going to take copper pipe and bend it to either make a rod or a hook and treat the pipe with a blue pantina so that it looks like it has been in the ocean forever, but then realized that the pantina may flake off and fall into tank. So probably going to go with a white rod so it blends into the bookshelf and is not drawing your eye.

If you don't have a proper tubing bender the copper will kink. If you wanted to go with the copper oxide look put a clear coat over the finished product. Also just a thought find a steel cold roll rod with the same o.d. as the copper I.d. with the steel sticking out both ends and the copper pipe as a sleeve just for esthetic

Good idea on having the copper just be aesthetic. I thought about the sealer as well. That should do it.

Good news..I think I found my hanging solution... a plant hanger hook..I will attach it to the shelf. It holds 35lbs which is more then enough and the size will put the light just about perfectly in the middle of the tank..

Bad news.... just got an email from Rick at Reef Radiance and I prob won't see the lights until prob 3 rd week in Oct. I ordered on Step 18...not sure why mine did not ship with the Sept23 shipment he got..I guess there were many ahead of mine... so anyone else ordering don't expect 10-14 days that it says on his website.

Man that stinks. I just bought one of these $90 Chinese light panels from eBay. Got it in 7 days. I rented a Par meter yesterday this thing is crazy bright. At 50% and 30" from the light its 297 and at 100% and 30" its 580
