If you want to let me borrow that light for 6 months, so I could give a testimonial of how it works, just let me know.

Maybe we can persuade Orphek to team up with us again on another giveaway. :xd:

Thats nice! Any par numbers on these yet?

Orphek informed us Dr. Sanjay Joshi tested PAR for their PR156 LED fixtures and that PAR for the Nilus is nearly the same (+/-).

They are willing to do spectro tests at 100%, 90%, 80% (etc.) see you can get a better idea of the light's performance while dimmed, if you're interested.

Lemme throw my .02 in as well :)
Take a look at the link:

http://orphek.com/led/2011/12/par-test-led-lighting/

T
his is from Orphek themselves:

" there is 3000 PAR output so total output is about 180,000 PAR i dont think there is any light with this output of par."

'Dr Sanjay did a par map for PR156 the par will be + or - "

Straight from their mouth. I hope this helps!
Thanks y'all,
Joe Savoy/SmokeyCFH

I think that would be very helpful data. I always wondered how dimming affects PAR and spectrum. But I am really liking what I see so far from this fixture!

Hi again, Reefing8EZ. We emailed Orphek to request the test results. We'll post their response as soon as we hear back.

I already e-mailed them and posted what they told me...read my post above.

Thank you so much for sharing! Orphek also told us they are willing to do spectro tests at 100%, 90%, 80% (etc.) so hobbyists can get a better idea of the light's performance while dimmed. Those were the results we were referring to.

Good info man. Thanks!
It seems that dimming didnt effect the spectrum output but there are no par numbers. I would like to see how dimmimg affects PAR as well..

This is what I got back so far:

"o.k will do PAR, but it will not be officially by us.
we will not do par test because it is wrong for us to do.

by the way people have to think about the PUR as you can see the 520-620nm it very low so Par is not everything!
think about a green LED it will give the same par as blue LED :)
but it does not serve for corals, only for algae."

So give them a little time and they'll have someone do the tests for you.

And Congrats to MarineDepot.com to be the first to carry these lights! Lucky, lucky, lucky! :)

You are correct, PAR is not everything. But it is a more accurate measurement of actual usable light than PUR.
Since PUR is more theory than science. And corals are very adaptive, how are you sure some corals cannot use green wavelengths? Or adapt to use them?
