Hi everyone, I m thinking on setting up a 20 g tank, Can I use new live sand with water from my main tank? or Is it better to use used live sand with water from main tank?
What happens if I go with the new live sand?
I don't want to disturb my main tank.
Thanks.

you can start with new sand with old water from main tank.
Or you can use a cup of old sand to seed new tank.

Or Start all new.
It is your choice. All of them work.

i would go with new dry sand imo live sand is a waste of money in time the sand will be full of life...
you can speed this up if you take a cup of sand from a up and running tank and spread it on the new sand to seeed it

+1; using used water doesn't really carry enough bacteria to make it worth while. The majority of the desirable bacteria is on the substrate (liverock and livesand).
