New Warner Marine Dual Beckett Skimmer

Here is a small build thread of the skimmer upgrade on our 450g show system. We have been running a WM Dual Beckett on our 2,500g farm for roughly 1 year, and it has worked out fantastic. Absolutely top notch in every aspect, from the manufacturing quality to the NASTIEST funk in the cup I ever hope to shove my hand in to. When the time came to upgrade the skimmer on the show system, there was never a doubt as to what skimmer would be chosen.
Here are the specs on the new "little" guy:
44" tall to the top of the cap.
27" tall, 8" diameter main body
Dual 1" Beckett injectors
6" Inner bubble chamber
1 1/2" Sch. 80 Gate Valve
Sch. 80 Unions on the Becketts

Big Daddy was very happy to see the little guy.

When we built this system, we had already planned on using this skimmer, so the pick up in the sump had been plumbed in advance. This made the night move along much quicker, considering this project started about 9:30pm.

Test fit. We drilled a few small holes in the base ring in order to attach it to the plywood base. (We are in CA, and the earthquakes might do some damage.)

When looking for a pump to push this, this was our favorite choice.
Yes, that is a Reeflo Snapper to be used on our skimmer...

A drain is born... To the far side of the sump where it dumps into a micron sock.

By now, its about 12:30am, and we're on Newcastle #4-ish... Done.

Plug her in, and its bubbletime!

Thought we'd also point out this minor, but very cool, detail before its caked with gunk...
They use a beveled edge on the inside neck of the cup to "cut" the bubbles. Don't know how much difference this makes, but it looks cool!

And finally, the first spill over into the cup... It'll be nasty soon enough.

And on a final note, we cannot thank Warner Marine enough for their AWESOME products. We use their entire line of supplements religiously, as well as their skimmers and calcium reactor, and Jon couldn't be a nicer guy to deal with. Thanks again Jon!

No. We just set it up their for a cool picture. The Big Dog is on the farm, and the new "little" guy is on the show system.

Ahhhh!!! That makes sense.

I really like the look of the WM products as well, the fit and finish are top notch. I am a little confused on the pump choice though, why not a pressure rated pump, like a Blueline 55, or one of the Reeflo pressure rated series, like the Wahoo or Marlin?

Too much flow. We spent a few hours on the phone with Chris @ Reeflo when we were planning out our shop, (the guy knows his stuff when it comes to flow dynamics) and this was the most comparable Reeflo pump to what was recommended by WM, according to him. We love the Reeflo pumps and use them exclusively, so why stop now, right? We planned for quite a bit of loss with the 90s, head ht, and pipe reduction, and I think we've got a somewhat perfect match. Any more flow and it would be too much...
