They've proven that you can buy a playoff appearance, but you can't buy a WS title. I think their spending spree is an absolute joke and it's only just begun. They could be landing Burnett, Lowe, and MANNY!!!! It's so easy to root against them. end rant.

Manny's a headcase and no other bigtime free agent picther they've picked up ever amounted to anything, they have money to burn so let them burn it. It's getting to the point where all the big name free agents will be Yankees anyway, so all the small market teams need to win by building up their farm systems and making mid season trades to make a post season run. Let the Yankees spend all their money, it's gotten them nowhere
Well, the loudest people who root against the Yankees tend to root for the Red Sox (not saying that this is the case with anyone here, but it's what I've observed). :)
Take a look at the payrolls. The Yankees are on the top, followed by the Sox and Mets. Heck, last year the Sox paid $10 million to some Japanese ball club just to talk to Dice-K. To TALK?!?!?! Maybe they're still not as bad as the Yankees in 'buying wins,' but they sure are learning quickly.
What the Yankees do really isn't so bad. Look at what Colorado did last year. Look at Tampa Bay this year. Sure, neither team won the WS, but they had incredible success with a tiny payroll. For champs, don't forget the Marlins in 2003 when they won it all with nothing but talent from their farm system. All three of these teams remained very competitive when other clubs were spending money faster than it could be printed.

ah let them spend it...they just look like a team with a bunch of players that can't win big games, i guess i should add anymore to that sentence...jeter, damon, posada, etc are winners, I need to give them thier credit.
I will say one thing though, spending all of this money when the economy is the way it is for the rest of the world, will probably turn a lot of people off. Teams keep raising ticket prices and at some point it will come around to bite them.

torre is FAR from the best manager in baseball, any manager could have done what torre did with a lineup like that!! how are the yanks a joke? Just bc they make money and use it on the team, i think with out teams like the yanks bo sox and mets going hard after players baseball would be a joke. with out those three teams NO one would care about baseball

I agree Joe Torre isn't the best manager in baseball...He was out managed almost every game in the NLCS (yes I am a phillies fan and don't get see much of the regular season dodgers). I would hesitate to say any manager is any good until they manage in the national league.
When the yankees were good the were great...but now they old studs are falling off a little bit. The funny thing is two of those three teams didn't make the playoffs last year. I guess spending all that money doesn,t necessarily buy you anything.

Living in the Cincinnati area (and you know how our professional teams are) I see teams go out and spend tons of money on players. It's sickening how much they pay players. If they can do it, more power to them. It just makes it better when they get knocked off by a small market team. We are a small market team, and if the Reds (Deads) or Bengals (Bungles) go and fork out a huge amount of $$$ for a player, you can bet your sweet butt that player will amount to squat. It happens everytime.
I couldn't tell you one other player other than Brandon Phillips and Jay Bruce that plays for the Reds. I'll give anyone a free frag if they can name 5:snicker:.
