Looking great. You are Killing me with the secret project on the fishroom!

It’s not that fun, unless your a science nerd that misses doing practical science

Here’s a hint

Toby out and about. The little white ‘somethings’ (not copepods- I know what they look like and this isn’t them) love the light and the population exploded. I knocked them back off the glass and Toby went into hunting mode. He was chasing them all over the left 1/3rd it the tank

Much better quality if you look via YouTube app

Partially finished Coral and invert QT area.

No before pics- since It was such a mess.

Still to mount electrical, and hang a shelf and underslung hanger for the VPS165.

Actually, whatever. Before pic.

When we did the kitchen Reno, we kept the cabinets and I’ve been using them down stairs. I just hate those home Reno shows where they destroy perfectly functional cabinets etc, instead of donating to Habitat. Turns out- habitat won’t accept kitchen cabinets. So we kept them

I forgot the cabinet was hiding a 2x1’ hole where the old security system junction was. I just covered it up with a left over scrap board

Heck yeah, I would use them for sure! I wish I had some cabinets I could have mounted! And thanks for the before photo. The after means so much more then. Are you gonna hang them back up again?

Nope.

It’s moving to the other side of the basement

I keep expanding my fish stuff -water station and 2 QT areas— into my ‘workshop’. I have a 22 ft section of wall that I’m making all upper cabinets and a miter saw station underneath. Rolling assembly table goes into the ‘under stairs nook’ to be pulled out when needed, and another area will house the 3D printer and electronics area (for various projects- led dive lights, my led array for the tank, 2 quadcopters).

However- I have so many 3/4” plywood off cuts (7”x 7’) from when I hung my fishroom walls that I’m going to make a ‘fish medicine cabinet’ that’s going to fit right over that weird panel to the left. That was temporary to cover the hole. Then a few white board panels for QT rundown info (1 fir each tank), and a big one with QT strategies.

Ultimately- I’m going to have a heavy duty curtain track split the space into fish vs woodwork to avoid dust intrusion while working. But that’s a little ways off yet

I went back to dig this out of the archives— post 56– to show you the layout. Green blotch is where I did today’s work, yellow is where the uppers are moving to.

My pink spotted goby developed a suspected bacterial infection in his mouth, maybe due to biting on a piece of the pvc fitting?

He finished CP yesterday , so today I did a transfer to a new tank, added Furan-2, metroplex and kanaplex.

10 day course of antibiotics, with daily furan-2 dosing, 25% WC every two days and kanaplex and metroplex after every WC.

Hoping this puts him on the mend.

I keep track by recording everything with a paint pen right on the glass. No notes to lose.

Hey Neil are you handy with making algorithm flow chart thingys?
Love how you write on the tank. That is smart. I have laminated charts I made for the invert and fish QT.

Lol, kinda...

In my research days, I’d spend a couple hours on Sunday night making my schedule for the week. Broken down into 30-60 minute periods, 4-5 line items, staggering 10 different things. Looks like a modified Gannt chart.

For the QT- I even keep pics of the tank right after I transition it from use to clean-up. That way I have a permanent record of my QT items (I actually did this for every culture vessel for my insulin producing stem cells and my animal cards for every experiment I’ve done going back 12 years. Animal HIPPA means I had to leave them at the institutions I worked, but it was around 23gb oF frankly useless pictures that let me and my OCD sleep at night)

I’m going to put up a big whiteboard with QT info:

Fish/ drug compatibility issues
Drug combinations
Drug dosages

All kept in sight where I can refer to it real quick.

How you feeling?

My gyre ended up pulling in a snail and making a grinding noise, so I pulled. I apparently but it back 1/2” off it’s normal location, and woke up to this-

Now, I could take my little beach spade and push it back. That would be the easiest I think.

Or, I could buy a second gyre head and put it on the opposite end to balance it out.

Tank needs more flow anyway.

But I just saw that gyre 300’s are out. Should I get a new 250 head now, or wait 2 months until everyone sells theirs for the upgrade?
