T-5 bulbs, PAR rating, what bulbs to use, etc....

i have seen a lot of people state that the kz fiji purple is the "same" as the ati pro color. i have them side-by-side and to me they are not anywhere close to the same color. the fiji purple is purple and the ati pro color is red...

+1 to that.

Dont think the par is as good as ATI. I use ATI cuz I have a ATI fixture

Giessman are pretty good but they cost to much comperd to ATI plus ATI is better

I Build a test area for getting diffrent PAR readings from bulbs for testing its made 6 inches high. I will soon be posting PAR readings on some of the bulbs around I could get diffrent par readings since Im using an ATI reflector will see
If you guys think I should be using an other measurment instead of 6" high let me now I could adjuts the base i did

What is you average hight from your t5 fixture to your water

I was doing a couple of readings and stop for a moment to ask you guys this
right now my bulb tester stands 6 inches tall and iam getiing very high par readings since its six inches high for example an ATI blue plus is testing out 420 par on my Apogee par meter

Do you guys think elevating it more to lets say 10 inches will be best for the test of each bulb

I am looking for a new combo for my 8 bulb light.


I currently run 8 T5 Bulbs on my display:

2 - Giesemann Pure Actinic
2 - Giesemann Actinic +
4 - Giesemann Midday



In my frag tank I run T12 bulbs

2 - UVL Super Actinic
8 - GE 6500K Daylight


I like the look over all look of the Display Tank but the
corals in the Frag Tank have Much better color.


I split a frag of Purple Death Zoas and put half in the Display tank and
half in the Frag tank (both sharing a common sump). The ones in the
frag tank are nice and purple the ones in the Display are almost brown.


Any suggestions?

The Giesmann pure actinics are a really dim bulb with little par.
If you are looking to add new bulbs drop a pure actinic and a midday and add two actinic +

If you were to get new bulb consider 4 ATI blue plus 3 Aqua blue specials and a kz fiji purple. IT will be a little more blue than you have now. But will still be really bright and have more par. I have used about every t5 bulb on hte market except the new kz bulbs. Which ill be ordering soon. When Not playing with skimmers I play with my bulbs. lol.

I am converting from Halides to T-5 for many reason and I really like how the ATI lamps make corals look and the way they color up certain LPS corals.
Any suggestions for an 8 x 54?

Is this as good as the UVL VHO bulbs color? When I tried their SA last time it really didn't do much to coral.

I think the ATI blue+ is the best 460nm actinic bulb there is acanman. I'm looking for an awesome 420nm actinic.

I have a 4 bulb unit for frags. I'm looking for color and growth. Someone fill in the blanks for me.
