I can't tell what it is, but you can dip the frag in a peroxide solution.

Thanks Rob. Peroxide will kill the algae, and not harm the zoa? Hmmm. What's the mix and grade of peroxide to be used?

I wish I could remember what the mix is, maybe I can search for it and get back to you. It is very safe, to be sure not to harm the polyps, I agitate the polyps to be sure they all close before setting them in the solution.

Added two tiny Red Head Gobies on the 26th. They're a long time favorite. I have only seen them once since adding them. They are essentially absorbed into the pukani and rubble bottom.

Have some increased nutrients - I can tell by the increasing algae. My Red Sea test kits read nothing however. I'm convinced the reagents were old when I bought them. My Hanna Phosphorus ULR measured 39ppb which is 0.12ppm PO4, I think. I changed out my GFO and will see if the PO4 decreases.

Alk is at 8.6 right now, lowest it's ever been, and lower than where I thought I wanted to run.

Realizing I've been too lazy with water changes. I suspect this has resulted in some issues, and hope to grow more methodical with them.

Got to go on a tour of Sustainable Aquatics last weekend. It was totally awesome!

Just discovered three of the four bulb in my WavePoint refugium fixture were out. New ones on the way.

Having a blast....

Crappy cell phone pic, but my Flame wrasse pair has been pretty amorous lately, flashing and flaring. I don't think any picture could do it justice.

Something New

It does not take much to excite me I guess. Today, I spotted one of my peppermints cleaning one of my anthias - managed to snap a picture. I did not realize they were a cleaner type shrimp. I had hoped to get a couple fire shrimp for this very reason. Cool.

Very COOL pic and video ^above^ Jeff, been wanting to get a pair or trio of Hawaiian Flame Wrasses for some time. Wish my friend Les was still collecting off Oahu to get them at a more reasonable cost...lol

Cheers, Todd

Have not updated the thread in a while, so....

I've removed my filter socks. With the freezing temperatures I can no longer go outside and hose them out as easily, so knowing many folks don't ue them at all, and even advocate against using them at all, I removed them about two weeks ago now. I can't be sure, but think my water may somehow actually be clearer now then before.

I started dosing the Aquavitro Fuel product. My two pieces of green montipora have colored up, from almost no green at all to the green they were when I purchased them almost a year ago. It may be a combination of Fuel and/or removing the filter socks, but regardless, they're coloring back up. I'm also seeing my frogspawn tissue re-take surface on the stalks where it had receded.

I also pruned the macro (Caulerpa serrulata) in my refugium back hard.

Recent additions include my first chalice, my first acans, and two SA neon gobies. It appears I have lost a peppermint shrimp over the holiday.

More later.....
