I see so many amazing pictures from people using nothing more than a phone. But I fail at using my Galaxy S5 and my Nikon D5000, it is disheartning. I spend good money on this camera and have adjusted just about everything I can think of. But I can't get those amazing colorful pics that others get with their blues on. And all I get are pics of coral in different shades of washed out blues.

Any help from others that use the D5000 would be great.

you will need some macro lens not just the 18-55mm or lens that comes with it. Use your Nikon everyday and you will get use to it.

There is a menu setting in which you can preset a white balance catered to your lights. It will remove the blues and adjust the color accordingly.
The other thing to do as has been suggest is get a macro lens. It doesn't have to be Nikon's, as there are other makers with a great lens and certainly less expensive.
