Every great contest, every epic battle, must come to an end, and a winner must be declared...
We must say, the field in the UC First Annual “Turn Your Brown Corals into Gold” contest was extremely strong (our strongest ever, actually)! Judging was very difficult, as there were so many good entries and great stories.
Narrowing the field was a harrowing process, and, after much consideration, we decided to award a First, Second, and Third prize. In fact, we had to award TWO Third prizes! The Second and Third Prize Winners will receive a UC Acropora frag of our choosing (Don't worry, it'll be colorful!)! We will send you a PM to get your shipping information...
Remember, everyone with a brown coral is a winner...And every brown coral deserves a special place in our hearts...Every coral can truly become gold.
Here are the winners:
The Third Place was perhaps the most competitive in the bunch. It was difficult to decide just who was the best of the worst here...
CLR48 "Orange Fungia"- A testimony to the joys of buying corals on e-Bay! One of our favorite "Swan to Ugly Duckling" stories for sure!
Why, that's not Orange! It's...BROWN!
Co- Third Place is c_healy for the "Tricolor Acro"- With it's charming earth tones, it compliments the accompanying cyano/diatom bloom beautifully, and makes for an overall unforgettable impact. This judge's personal fave!
"And it goes so well with the algae!"
Second Place goes to Coraloliseffect for the, well- we affectionately call it the "Steaming Pile", but it's a classic "Brown" Lobo! Well done, well done!
"That coral just looks like @#$%!"
There always has to be ONE winner, and it was a tough call. For many reasons, we decided that First Place should go to Marquiseo for "Mr. Invincible." This noble coral has suffered the insults of many, and can now stand tall and..well, brown- knowing that it is most truly "Golden" now! And, don't think that we didn't enjoy the irony of the fact that it came from one of our rival vendors, LOL!
"Forget the brown...That's GOLD!"
Thank you everyone, for the hard work and dedication, tirelessly tending to your Brown corals. Remember, you never know if that little ugly brown coral today might just turn out to be that big ugly brown coral tomorrow...Er, actually, maybe it will really turn into GOLD!
Since this contest was so wildly popular, we're going to bring it back in the future...If there's one universal truth, it's that Mother Nature will always make more brown corals. It's our job as reefers to turn 'em into gold!
