I am setting up a temporary quarantine tank for new livestock and snagged a cheap 10g tank. I don’t have a stand to put it on and was wondering if it’s safe to leave it on carpet or if tile is preferable?

On carpet it’ll level pretty well but I’m worried about the carpet pushing into the bottom glass.

On tile, it may not be perfectly level unless I try to mess with shims.

I’m leaning towards tile, but wanted y’all’s thoughts.

Unfortunately a stand or shelf isn’t an option given my space constraints.

If its only temporary then I would just put a couple of old towels under it, to catch spillage and help level the tank, so you can put it anywhere.
Yeah, but safe on carpet is the real concern. If there’s no risk on carpet, the tank will be in a quiet back bedroom, else it’ll be on the floor in the living/dining room where the dogs will pay visits, etc.

Seeing as it's only 10 gallons I assume it would be fine on the carpet. That said you can just get a 2X4 and cut it so it fits under the corners (short or long ways). . . like this:

I don't believe there is risk to the tank being on the carpet, I think the risk is to the carpet if saltwater spills on it.

That’s a great point. I didn’t consider whether the saltwater might be problematic for the carpet, but either way, water+carpet usually isn’t a great combination. ;)
