I recently rescued a severely malnourished Mandarin and named him Gumdrop. My tank was a 10-month-old 30 gallon long system filled with pods that I threw him in and got him feeding out of a diner with selcon-soaked brine after day 2. I'm looking for signs of recovery, and today he is the most active I've ever seen more so than at the LFS where I got him. He will scavenge the 1 rock he hangs around but isn't venturing to the other rocks where there is more food! I have the pods, and I have him eating supplemented frozen food from the diner, and he's definitely active and not a lost cause so is there anything else I can do to encourage healthy growth and recovery?

I think you are on the right track. Only think I might do is add more pods to its stomping rock and hopefully it will start venturing out to find the other places where the pods are thick.
