What are your opinions on algae control?
I was also considering an algae blenny and a small tomini.
I have a 48" long 20" wide aquarium.

48x20 is likely big enough for a yellow, if it's the only tang.

Definitely big enough for a tomini.

Algae blennies are cool, but overrated algae eaters. Don't mix one with the tomini, as they hate each other.

Best algae eaters are urchins. Some snails, like big Mexican turbos are good. Tangs do okay on certain algaes.

Hilarious you say that as my white tail killed my lawnmower but really doesnt show much agression towards anything else.

I would say my white tail does more for algae than my gem. However my gem is much more active.

I would get a tomini or white tail for a actual algae control.

As with most things in reefing there are no hard and fast rules. My lawnmower blenny and Tomini tang have been together for close to 3 years now and get along fine.

I will agree that the blenny's algae eating is overrated. He eats the film on the glass and rocks and that's it as far as algae control goes. The only other thing he eats is pellets and although I'm not a big fan of pellets they are in the food rotation to keep the blenny happy.
