Hi guys,

I set up my tank a month ago and cycled. I have crabs, snails, shrimp, and all sorts of CUC. They all doing fine and happy.

Some area of the sand bed is slowly changing colours (pictures below), and I was wondering what type of algae/bacteria is this and if it's part of the "ugly stage". I also ordered a vacuum but it's not here yet. Any thoughts?

Thank you very much!

Thank you! What do I need to do? Vacuum? Clean/do something?

Make sure you have a diverse clean up crew. Normal water changes.

Do some reading, read up on "new tank syndrome", that way you know what to expect for the next few months and you can prepare for it and handle it as it comes.

Freshwater filter only or is it? Have you ever used an HOB filter on a saltwater tank?
