I'm plumbing a Bean Animal overflow into a ReefMat. It appears I'll need to combine the gate valve line with the secondary overflow line as the ReefMat has a single input. I wonder if the ability to adjust the siphon line is diminished by the additional turbulence when combining the 2 pipes, and more noise? What have others done e.g. any suggestions?

I would not plumb them together you stand the chance of odd interaction. The siphon takes the bulk of the flow, so plumb that into the mechanical filter and don't worry about the open channel bypassing the reefmat.

The reefmat has two inputs, one on each side. The one side is blanked off, but you can use it. I hardpiped both my overflows to the reefmat and my emergency directly to the sump (a few inches above the surface).

Here is a pic of what I did. I didnt glue any of these fittings so they are easily removable if I need to remove the reefmat.
