Can I dose calcium acetate for both carbon and calcium in one?

I have a big leftover pile of calcium carbonate rock(oyster shell and coral bones) and a lot of white vinegar. If I make a solution of calcium acetate, will that act as both a calcium source and a carbon source(via acetate ion), or am I just stupid?

Alternatively, is it healthy for corals to use calcium chloride formed from said rocks and hydrochloric acid as a component of kalkwasser? I’m not sure how pure commercial HCl is, or if trace impurities will kill things.

@Randy Holmes-Farley Any opinions? I did come across literature supporting acetate in use of supporting denitrification, and calcium acetate should be soluble enough to be used as a dosing supply.

Hydrochloric acid however… I can‘t figure out if that‘s safe or not.
