You should see some of the Aussie Acan Lords i have in my tank. Usually my acan lords are about the size of a quarter or a little bigger but some of my aussie acan lords are bigger than those big silver dollars!!! 2"+

i had many people seen in the tank with other echinatas and we would look and look and it is just does not give the echinata impression...
the other thing about this coral that when it opens its mouth it is a hole like 5 mm wide with strings and spirals inside ill feed it now just to take a pic for you

if polyp is 2.5 inches id say its a maxima , echinatas that ive seen are 1/2 inch to maybe inch at best ware did you get it.

I'm positive it's a Bowerbanki ... I will be picking a small colony in the next day or two ...seen it myself!!

the strings and spirals are part of the internal organ system of the coral......some corals have such large mouths that it's very easy to see, as in your case (my scolymia vitiensis is a perfect example)

some even seem to spew these "strings and spirals" when stressed (rhodactis mushrooms do this practically every time they're handled)....it's not a bad thing...well, in my experience anyways

I'm positive it's a Bowerbanki ... I will be picking a small colony in the next day or two ...seen it myself!!

but yeah...I still think it's an a. echinata....just a very unusually large one at that.....you can easily draw a comparison to humans; the average human weight when born is 7lbs...but some times mother nature hiccups and gives us something else.....

.....a 17lbs baby!!!

now, I would not want to call this baby a whole new sub-species of human, nor will anyone take me seriously if I did!....he's just a bit of a fatty..that is all
