I’m very new to the hobby and have what I believe is some weird growth on a cerith snail and want to know if it’s something that I should be concerned about. The affected snail is currently in a hospital tank just in case.

In the pictures below, the growth in question is circled in red. It’s not easy to tell from the angle of these pictures, but it’s near what I would consider the “back” of the snail. The “front” (nearest to the opening in the shell) is circled in blue.

Does anyone have any idea what this might be? It seems to move some, mostly growing/shrinking and has what appears to be sand stuck to it. The growth is firm, but not hard/encrusted.

I’m not sure what else would be useful to know about this, but am happy to provide whatever information that I can.

Thanks!

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

That's a solitary tunicate (a harmless filter-feeder) - it's in a very strange spot though.

Good trouble: Have mushrooms ever become pests in your aquarium?
