I'm doing something similar with muriatic acid. I poured in a little and the pH was 6.9 so I poured in a little more and the pH went to 2. The thick, thick build up of coralline algae, the montipora an organpipe corals that attached themselves have all let go nicely.

A pH in the low 6.0's should dissolve the calcium deposits, and if not the low 2's are sweet for removing and cleaning scale.

I bought pvc plugs for the overflow bulkheads and filled it to the water line.

so should i add acid until i see pH drop under 4 (kh test drops pH under 4 to assure that all calcium is dissolved)
