Hey guys. I recently bought some 10mm glass really cheap and wanted to make a frag tank as practice for making a new display. I really like the look of external overflows like this one.

A few guys on my local group got custom made tanks and they're done like this but with a piece of acrylic covering about 80% of that pane of glass for added strength. The acrylic is also slotted at the top like a regular overflow.

My question is, How easy is it to do at home? My plan was to drill 2 half moons with a diamond drill bit and use a glass cutter to score between them. Then hopefully snap the excess. I would then use acrylic like I've seen done to help add support to the then weakened glass.

I think these guys usually put them on a machine and then grind away at the glass with diamond coated tools. Definitely looks nice and can be done free hand but running that risk of cracking glass sucks.
