Just got a new Goby and he is making his own little cove under a rock. However, he’s got it to the point where it’s 4” inches high and I’m not looking for a DSB in the display. So the question is.. if I add more sand to the bare bottom spot, will he just make the mound higher and higher? Is there a limit? I’m all for him having his own little cave, just want to make sure he’s not going to just bury the whole rock if I add more. Thanks!

Hard to see the height from the pics, but you can see the egg crate exposed underneath.

Ya, mine seemed to do this for about 6 months while digging out various caves. I was constantly moving and leveling sand. When he settled on the permanent cave it stopped and I haven’t had to move or level sand in almost two years.

I second this. They will continue until satisfied. Adding sand will mean more building material for the goby to have fun with. You can lock him in to a specific spot if you provide it with a variety of different size sand & rubble which it can utilize to build its fort. Toss all that rubble into the corner you want him to stay in & they will only build in that specific spot.

Same here… just keep moving it and he will chill out.
