Just a thought, and another aspect that I didn't see mentioned . . .

Juvenile fish add but a little to the bioload of the tank, so the shock is minimal, and the biofilter can quickly catch up. As the fish grows, the biofilter can _keep_ up.

Adding a big fish means adding a lot of food and a lot of waste all at once.
