Filter for a 20 gal reef tank

I have a question i can use a marineland emperor 400 for a 20 gal reef tank?

You can, but in my opinion it will not be the best option for a reef tank... a lot of organics float to the top of the water column and need to be skimmed of, and ultimately removed via some sort of filtration.

What type of reef tank are you shooting for?
