I'm sure you get questions like this all the time but I'm not sure where to start.

I picked up the acro a month or so ago and it seemed to be doing OK as far as I could tell. 3 days ago it fell off the rock where I have it temporarily mounted and was on the sand for about 24 hours. I put it back and soon after this branch started shedding tissue to what looks like a bare skeleton.

Is there anything I can do? Will the spread stop? Cause?

double check that it is to skeleton and cut it off. could be asphyxiation or mico bacteria infection sooo hard to say. but often its best to remove as it MAY spread. note i didnt say will.

Sometimes new growth is white but then both tips would be whitish. Salty is probably pointing you in the right direction

Thanks, what causes this?
asphyxiation or mico bacteria infection
stn rtn is weird.
as its brown Id have to say its not getting enough light. so it already has a compromised immune system and metabolism. so a scratch can get ugly fast.
so its really a wait and see or clip and hope.
and dont panic. what i type may sound harsh its not meant to.
My first SPS were all healthy as possible an CHEAP as possible just to get the hang of it.
Yea. Ive killed my share.

I work slow, I try to get my moneys worth. Oh and this isn't a stick but a small colony. I did hedge my bet and cut some tips off as to try and save the species.

had this happen to my joe's rainbow a couple weeks ago. it was white when i plucked it out of the sand.

i clipped the offending branch and it is recovering nicely.

still stinks since this guy grows slow.

Thanks everyone. I clipped off the branch and that part looks fine but now it looks like it's losing tissue on the underside of the coral. Looks to be going fast unfortunately. It seemed to be fine for a month and now all of a sudden it's crashing.

eh that stinks. might i ask the age of the tank/other sps in there?

i know some lps/softy dominant systems are unforgiving to sticks
