Yup, Chine CAN make some fair quality stuff. Yup, some of the quality halide bulbs that we still use are indeed made in China.

Radium could have at least made the bulbs until 2027, if they wanted. Even then, RoHS would have likely granted extension after extension since there is no equivalent replacement on the market - the folks who make these decisions on equivalent replacement are not reefing thumbsuckers who are EcoTech bros on a message board... they know what is what. They can still make specialty T5 and T8 bulbs, too. General Purpose is gone.

Some of these decisions get blamed on regulations so that companies can start to gain market share for their alternatives. Why make T5s until the last minute and let your competition gain the market on their T5 LED replacements, for example.

They will talk to you if you speak German. You need to speak German for some of the nuance to come through.

Well, I do believe that one of the reasons was numbers too, but because their bulbs aren't directed to a specialized market, like the aquarium industry, they just decided to stop the production at once before even wait for those regulations to hit.

I made the error of not stocking up when I should have (its was summer and not paying attention to the tank). It would seem I'm now hard pressed to find 250W DE MH.

Am I correct that only Reef Brite make these bulbs? If yes, how can one buy them? I don't see any purchasing options from their web page.

dang...as year ago I could have bought a handful of Phoenix 14k bulbs. Guess I might finally be forced into LED.

thanks in advance !

Scored likely Canada‘s last Phoenix bulb… and bought a Reeflux 10k which should be interesting. So I bought myself a couple more years….if I’m lucky.
